Biography

Kolja Lessing, born on October 15, 1961, in Karlsruhe, Germany, is a German violinist, pianist, composer, music scholar, and educator. His mother provided him with fundamental musical training, followed by violin classes under Hansheinz Schneeberger in Basel from 1978. Lessing completed his concert exams in 1982 and 1983, further refining his skills with mentors such as Berthold Goldschmidt, Ignace Strasfogel, and Zoltán Székely. He began his teaching career as a violin professor at the Würzburg University of Music from 1989 to 1993, later moving to the University of Music and Theatre "Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy" Leipzig in 1993, and eventually to the Stuttgart State University of Music and Performing Arts in 2000. Lessing has performed worldwide as both a violinist and pianist, and his discography includes numerous recordings, such as Strasfogel: Piano Music (1998).
