Biography
Norwegian singer/songwriters Eirik Glambek Bøe and Erlend Ãye formed the harmony-heavy indie folk duo Kings of Convenience in 1999. Both musicians were born in 1975 and raised in Bergen, and they first performed together in the short-lived band Skog. Three years after releasing Skog's 1996 debut EP, Tom Tids Tale, they reformed as Kings of Convenience and spent the summer playing festivals across Europe. The duo's debut album, Quiet Is the New Loud, was released January 2001, featuring production from Coldplay's go-to collaborator Ken Nelson. A Number 1 hit in Norway, the album earned a silver certification in the UK and was followed later that year by a remix album titled Versus. Riot on an Empty Street appeared in 2004, featuring a pair of collaborations with Feist. The album charted at Number 2 in Norway, Number 3 in Italy, and Number 49 on the American indie charts. Kings of Convenience earned another Top 10 hit in Norway and Italy with the band's third studio record, Declaration of Dependence, which was released in 2009. A decade-long hiatus followed, during which time Eirik Glambek Bøe and Erlend Ãye reformed Skog and issued the band's first and only full-length album, Analog Dance Music, in 2017. Four years later, they resumed Kings of Convenience's output with 2021's Peace or Love, an album that featured collaborations with Feist and The Staves.
