Biography

Kathryn Gwynne Harries, born in 1951 in the United Kingdom, was a British soprano. She studied at Surbiton High School and later at the Royal Academy of Music. Harries began her career as an opera singer with her debut performance in Parsifal at the Welsh National Opera in 1983. She performed extensively across the UK, including engagements with the English National Opera and Glyndebourne Festival Opera. Harries made her Metropolitan Opera debut in 1986. Additionally, she was a prominent figure in music education, teaching at Kingston Polytechnic and serving as director of the National Opera Studio from 2008 to 2017. She received the Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 2019. Kathryn Gwynne Harries passed away in 2023.
