Biography

Jyoti Nooran, born on February 24, 1994, in Phillaur, Punjab, India, is one half of the acclaimed Nooran Sisters, a Sufi singing duo she forms with her sister Sultana Nooran. Growing up in a family steeped in musical tradition, Jyoti Nooran was trained in the Sham Chaurasia gharana of classical music by her father, Ustad Gulshan Mir, who is a descendant of renowned Sufi singers. Jyoti Nooran's career took off after she and her sister gained national attention in 2012 with their song "Tung Tung," which was featured on MTV India's Sound Trippin and later included in the Bollywood movie Singh is Bling. The duo's Bollywood breakthrough came with the song "Patakha Guddi" for the 2014 movie Highway, composed by A. R. Rahman, which became a significant hit and garnered several awards for Jyoti and her sister, including the Mirchi Music Award for Upcoming Female Vocalist of the Year. Jyoti Nooran has also released music as a soloist, including "Modern Jugni", "Paon Ki Jutti" and "Mujhko Bada Sataya Gya", in 2024.
