Biography

Julia Ecklar, born in 1964, is an American singer known for her contributions to folk and metal music. She began her musical career in the early 1980s with Horse-Tamer's Daughter released by Off Centaur Publications in 1983. In 1986, Ecklar released Divine Intervention, notable for being the first filk genre release to combine orchestral and progressive rock arrangements. The album featured songs inspired by science-fiction and fantasy films such as Star Trek III and Ladyhawke. Her 2013 album, Horsetamer was produced by Michael Moricz marked her return to solo work after a hiatus. Ecklar has also been recognized with multiple Pegasus Awards, including Best Female Filker in 1984, Best Performer in 1987, and Best Writer/Composer in 1990.
