Biography
Julia Brown is a Brazilian classical organist and harpsichordist born in Rio de Janeiro. She grew up in Campinas and graduated from Unicamp State University in piano performance before receiving a scholarship to attend Northwestern University. She earned a Master's degree and Doctorate under the instruction of Wolfgang Rübsam. Between 1996 and 1999, Brown served as president of the Brazilian Association of Organists and helped organize the Fifth Convention of Latin American Organists. She performed in North and South America and Europe, appearing at events including the Oregon Bach Festival and the 2008 National Convention of the American Guild of Organists. Brown co-founded the early music ensemble Cascade Consort. Her discography included the studio recordings Buxtehude: Musique pour orgue, volume 5 (2006) and Wilhelm Friedemann Bach: Åuvres pour clavier (volume 2) (2008). She was appointed Director of Music and Organist at Mayflower Congregational Church in Grand Rapids.
