Stephen Bird, known professionally as Jowe Head, and born in 1956 in Kidderminster, Worcestershire, England, is a guitarist, singer, and visual artist. He began his music career in 1973, playing with Nikki Sudden and Epic Soundtracks before joining Swell Maps. With Swell Maps, he recorded numerous singles and two albums before the band split up in 1980. Head then embarked on a solo career, releasing his debut album Pincer Movement in 1982. In the mid-1980s, he formed The Palookas and joined Television Personalities, staying with the latter for ten years. His second solo album, Strawberry Deutsche Mark, was released in February 1986. Head also led The Househunters, releasing three singles and an album between 1986 and 1988. In 2008, he formed Jowe Head and the Demi-Monde, releasing several albums until their disbandment in 2015. Following this, Head collaborated with various musicians on projects such as Rude Mechanicals, Infernal Contraption, and Eleventh Hour Adventists.
