Biography
Josef Loibl, a German baritone and singing teacher, was born in Schönbrunn, Baden-Württemberg, Germany, in 1939. He studied voice with Karl Schmitt-Walter and composition with Hermann Reutter at the Musikhochschule München, and his technique was influenced by Frederick Husler and Yvonne Rodd-Marlings. Loibl gained international recognition after winning a prize at the Hertogenbosch competition. He focused on Lieder, cantata, and oratorio repertoire, collaborating with notable accompanists such as Erik Werba, Jörg Demus, and Helmut Deutsch. His recordings include Mendelssohn (selected Lieder) and Mozart (concert artias). Loibl was also a professor of voice at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz and the Musikhochschule München, training singers like Annette Dasch and Mihoko Fujimura. He worked in productions of Richard Wagner's and Giuseppe Verdi's operas and gave master classes.
