José Luis Perales Morillas was born on 18 January 1945 in Castejón, Cuenca, Spain, and began his musical journey as a singer-songwriter after studying electronics in Sevilla and Madrid before entering the music industry in the early 1970s, releasing his first album Mis canciones in 1973, which established his presence in the Spanish pop scene, followed by successive releases such as El pregón (1974), Para vosotros canto (1975), and Por si quieres conocerme (1976). His composition âPorque te vasâ popularised by Jeanette in 1976 achieved international acclaim, selling millions of copies in Germany and Austria and contributing to his careerâs many gold and platinum records. Throughout the 1980s and 1990s, Perales continued to record albums including Nido de águilas (1981) and América (1991), while collaborating with artists like Paloma San Basilio and Miguel Bosé. In the 2000s he released Me han contado que existe un paraÃso (2000) and Navegando por ti (2006), and later Calle Soledad (2012) and Calma (2016), sustaining a successful touring career across Spain and Latin America. Perales received numerous accolades, including the Medalla de Oro al Mérito en las Bellas Artes (2017) and recognition for his trajectory at the Premios Amigo, solidifying his status as a prolific contributor to Latin pop and Spanish balladry.
