Biography

Floreal Ruiz, born on 29 March 1916 in Buenos Aires’ Flores neighborhood, was an Argentine tango singer, lyricist, and composer. After working in upholstery and home-delivery services, he began singing serenades with Hugo del Carril and entered radio contests under the pseudonyms Fabián Conde and Carlos Martel, winning a 1936 Radio Fénix contest. He joined José Otero’s orchestra in 1938, recorded "Marcha del Club Platense" (1939), and debuted on Radio Prieto in 1942. Ruiz performed with the orchestras of Alfredo De Angelis, Aníbal Troilo, Francisco Rotundo, and José Basso, recording 148 tangos including "Marioneta" and "Naranjo en flor". He later sang solo with arranger Osvaldo Requena, and recorded songs such as "Buenos Aires conoce" and "A quién le puede importar" with Raúl Garello. Ruiz died on April 1978; a mural in Flores honored his legacy.
