Joris Roelofs, born on February 21, 1984 in Aix-en-Provence, is a Dutch jazz musician. He began playing clarinet at age eight and switched to alto saxophone three years later. Roelofs studied at the Conservatorium van Amsterdam, earning his master's degree in 2007. His career breakthrough came with his debut album Introducing Joris Roelofs, released in 2008 with Aaron Goldberg, Ari Hoenig, and Matt Penman. From 2005 to 2010, he was a member of the Vienna Art Orchestra and played first alto saxophone in the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw. He has performed at the North Sea Jazz Festival multiple times and collaborated with notable artists such as Brad Mehldau, Dee Dee Bridgewater, and Sonny Fortune. Roelofs received several awards, including the Pim Jacobs Prize in 2001 and the Stan Getz / Clifford Brown Fellowship Award from the International Association for Jazz Education in 2003.
