Biography

John Junia Jones Jr., known as Johnny "Yard Dog" Jones, was born on June 21, 1941, in Crawfordsville, Arkansas. He moved to Chicago and began playing guitar in gospel groups for over a decade. Influenced by Robert Johnson and Little Walter, Jones adopted the nickname "Yard Dog." In 1996, at age 55, he released his debut album Ain't Gonna Worry through Earwig Music Company, which won him a W.C. Handy Award for Best New Blues Artist in 1998. He performed at notable festivals including the Chicago Blues Festival in 1997. Jones passed away on September 15, 2015, in Decatur, Illinois.
