Biography

Joanna Clare MacGregor, born on July 16, 1959, is a British concert pianist, conductor, composer, and festival curator. She began her musical education at home with her mother, who was a piano teacher, and later studied under Christopher Elton. MacGregor read music at Murray Edwards College, Cambridge, and pursued postgraduate studies at the Royal Academy of Music. In 1985, she was selected for the Young Concert Artists Trust, marking the start of an international performing career that has spanned over 70 countries. She has collaborated with leading orchestras such as the New York Philharmonic and London Symphony Orchestra, and conductors including Pierre Boulez and Sir Simon Rattle. MacGregor's discography included albums like Deep River (2006) and Joanna Macgregor Live In Buenos Aires (2009). She also became particularly known for her interpretations of Bach, including performances of the Goldberg Variations.
