Biography

Singer, songwriter, poet, art director, and performer Jing Wong was born in Hong Kong. He attended Central Saint Martins College of Art & Design in London and graduated as a Theatre Designer and Director with First Honours. He also earned an MA in Theatre Directing from London Central School of Speech and Drama. While attending school, he honed his musical skills, inspired by folk, blues, and rock music. Initially influenced by Bob Dylan, Nick Drake, Damien Rice and other folk-based artists, he was then inspired by the raw rock ‘n’ roll sounds of The White Stripes and The Black Keys. Jing Wong was discovered by Hong Kong music legend Anthony Wong Yiu Ming and signed to his label People Mountain People Sea. He released his first live album + EP in December 2012. Wong opened for Belle & Sebastian, Kings of Convenience, and Andrew Bird during their Honk Kong tour dates. He also appeared at music festivals like Clockenflap. Wow and Flutter, and Freespace in West Kowloon promenade. In 2015, he released two EPs on his own label, Mr. Nightingale: one in English (How to Disappear) and one in Chinese (活的小偷). His fourth EP, 我穿過青春, was released in 2017. He followed that up with his next EP, A Spy in the House of Love, in 2018.
