Biography

James Marshall 'Jimi' Hendrix (* November 27, 1942 in Seattle, Washington; † September 18, 1970 in London) is a guitarist and singer from the USA. Born John Allen Hendrix, he is still considered one of the most innovative rock musicians. With his sometimes psychedelic playing on the electric guitar, Jimi Hendrix has had a lasting influence on rock. Jimi Hendrix has been playing guitar in various bands since the early 1960s. He also accompanied the performances of well-known artists such as Little Richard, Ike & Tina Turner, Supremes, Isley Brothers, King Curtis and Jackie Wilson as a guitarist in the background. In 1966, he released the singles "Hey Joe" and "Stone Free", at that time still under the pseudonym Jimmy James. A short time later, the guitarist was signed to a record deal. The producers formed a band around the artist and called the project The Jimi Hendrix Experience. the band's debut album, Are You Experienced, was released in 1967, with all albums being associated solely with Jimi Hendrix due to the extraordinary guitar sound. It includes the well-known songs "Hey Joe" and "Stone Free" as well as other classics such as "Foxy Lady" and "Purple Haze". Jimi Hendrix's next album, Axis: Bold as Love, was released in the same year. It contains two quieter songs, "Little Wing" and "Castles Made of Sand", which are later often covered by other artists. The compilation Smash Hits (1968) was followed by the album Electric Ladyland (1968). This album contains further Jimi Hendrix classics such as "Voodoo Chile", "Crosstown Traffic" and "All Along The Watchtower", a cover version of a Bob Dylan song. Jimi Hendrix's live performances have also become legendary: he played at the famous Woodstock Festival in 1969, where he delivered his very own version of the American national anthem. a live recording of a concert in New York followed in 1970 with Band of Gypsys. Jimi Hendrix died on September 18, 1970 at the age of 27. in 1992, Jimi Hendrix was posthumously honored with the Grammy Award for his life's work. In the same year, he was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. in 1994, he also received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
