Biography

Jean Anezin, better known by his stage name Jean Lumière, was born on August 20, 1895 in Marseille, France. His first love was acting, and he enrolled at the Marseilles Conservatoire, where he won first prize in tragedy and comedy. He then met singer Esther Lekain, who chose his stage name and encouraged him to follow her to Paris. In 1934, he scored a huge hit with Paul Delmet and Charles Fallot's romance "La petite église", for which he won the Grand Prix du disque. His career continued successfully after the Second World War, with titles such as "Le Chaland qui passe " and "Les Roses de Picardie". However, he left the stage in 1960 to become a singing teacher, whose "pupils" included such future stars as Marcel Amont, Gloria Lasso, Cora Vaucaire, Diane Dufresne and Mireille Mathieu. He died in Paris on April 2, 1979 at the age of 83.
