Biography

Javed Bashir is a Pakistani playback singer and pop/rock solo artist who was born in Lahore, Punjab, on August 8, 1973. Trained in Qawwali and Hindustani classical music as a child, he launched his singing career by appearing on "Deewane Nachde" and "Naiyo Dil Lagda," two tracks from producer Bally Sagoo's album Anything But Silent in 2001. He joined the Mekaal Hasan Band in 2002 and served as the band's lead vocalist on its debut album, Sampooran, in 2004. Five years later, Mekaal Hasan Band released another album, Saptak, and scored a major hit with "Chal Bulleya," which earned Bashir the Lux Style Award for "Best Singer." When the band broke up shortly thereafter, Javed Bashiri continued releasing albums like 2010's Tumhe Dillagi and 2011's Naina More as a solo artist. He earned more attention for his work as a playback singer, however, debuting in 2012 with contributions to the films Piya Tu Kaahe Rootha Re, Cocktail, and O Re Khuda. Two years later, his song "Mera Yaar" (from the film Bhaag Milkha Bhaag) was named "Best Song Representing Sufi Tradition" at the 2014 Mirchi Music Awards. Meanwhile, his solo career continued to flourish with songs like "Sufi Saroor" (his 2018 duet with Richa Sharma) and 2019's "Ya Allah - Hamd."
