Jacob Garchik, born October 12, 1976, in San Francisco, is an American jazz trombonist, composer, and arranger who is also active in world music. He began studying piano and accordion as a child before focusing on the trombone at age ten, studying classical trombone with Doug Thorley. In 1994 he continued his studies at the Manhattan School of Music. Garchik later became active in the Downtown and Brooklyn jazz scenes, collaborating with artists including Lee Konitz, Ohad Talmor, Steve Swallow, and Mary Halvorson. His recordings include Abstracts (2005), the solo multitracked project The Heavens â The Atheist Gospel Trombone Album (2012), Ye Olde (2015), and the large-ensemble album Clear Line (2020).
