Biography

Ivo Kahánek (born on May 23, 1979, in Frýdek-Místek) is a Czech pianist and music educator. He graduated from the Academy of Arts Prague, in London at the Guildhall School under Ronan O’Hora and through masterclasses with Karl‑Heinz Kämmerling, Christian Zacharias, Alicia de Larrocha. Ivo Kahánek’s breakthrough came with 2004 victory at the Prague International Music Spring Competition, followed by prizes at the Maria Canals, Vendôme, Fryderyk Chopin, and Concertino Praga contests. He signed a three‑year contract with Supraphon in 2007, recording works by Janáček, Martinů, Klein and Kabeláč, and released Chopin: Sonata Op. 58—Scherzi in 2010. Additionally, Ivo Kahánek performed with the BBC Symphony Orchestra under Jiří Bělohlávek, Czech Philharmonic and WDR Cologne.
