Biography

Iveta Apkalna, born on November 30, 1976, in Rēzekne, Latvia, is an organist and pianist. She began piano lessons at age five and decided to pursue music by eight, influenced by her family's musical heritage. Apkalna studied at the Latvian Music Academy Jāzeps Vītols in Riga and the Guildhall School of Music and Drama in London. Apkalna performed extensively across Europe, Asia, and North America, playing in venues like the Händel-Festspiele Halle and Lucerne Festival. She collaborated with conductors such as Claudio Abbado and Mariss Jansons, with a repertoire ranging from Bach to Philip Glass. Apkalna is the Titularorganistin of the Hamburger Elbphilharmonie. Her discography includes Live (2003) and Himmel & Hölle (2004). She received the Royal Bank Calgary International Organ Competition and the Bach-Preis in Calgary both in 2002.
