Biography

The Honeycombs, a British band founded in 1963 in north London, consisted of Denis D'Ell on lead vocals and harmonica, Martin Murray on rhythm guitar, Alan Ward on lead guitar, John Lantree on bass guitar, and Anne "Honey" Lantree on drums. The group initially performed under the name the Sheratons before being renamed by record producer Joe Meek. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Have I the Right?" in June 1964, which reached Number 1 in the UK and became an instant hit. The song was produced by Meek at his apartment studio and featured innovative recording techniques that enhanced Honey Lantree's drumming. The band's success continued with tours to the Far East and Australia, and notable appearances on television shows such as Top of the Pops and Ready Steady Go!. However, they struggled to replicate the success of their debut single, and by 1967, the group had disbanded. The band's original lineup reformed briefly in 1999 to record a new version of "Live and Let Die" with producer Russell C. Brennan, which was featured on the compilation Cult Themes From the 70s Vol. 2.
