Biography

Hanneke Jewel Cassel, born 14 April 1978, is an American folk violinist and teacher. Raised in Oregon, she established a reputation as a competitive performer, winning the U.S. National Junior Scottish Fiddle Championship in 1992 and 1994, and the Oregon State Texas-style Grand Fiddle Champion title in 1996. In 1997, Cassel received the title of U.S. National Scottish Fiddle Champion. She graduated from the Berklee College of Music in 2000, receiving the String Department Award in 1998. Cassel established a career performing and teaching internationally across Europe, Asia, and Oceania. Her recording career began with the album My Joy (2001), produced by Laura Risk. Cassel’s discography included Many Happy Returns (2003), Some Melodious Sonnet (2004), Silver (2006), For Reasons Unseen (2009), Dot the Dragon's Eyes (2013), and Trip to Walden Pond (2017). Later works included O Come Emmanuel (2021) and Infinite Brightness (2023).
