Biography

Since 1972, Gwendal has been contributing to the revival of Celtic music in France. In 1974, Gwendal's instrumental group Irish Jig started out with a close affinity to Irish music. He soon dared to incorporate elements of jazz and even progressive rock into his music, which, while it may make some purists howl, appealed to a new audience. Joe Can't Reel (1976), A Vos Désirs - Rainy Day (1977), 4 (1979), established a reputation that crossed borders. Gwendal is particularly popular in Spain - a Celtic land for those who don't know it - where En Concert was recorded in 1981. In 1989, Gwendal's debut album Glen River was awarded the Prix de l'Académie Charles-Cros. After Pan Ha Diskan in 1995, Gwendal took a long break. The group returned in 2005 with War Raog, and continues to stir up crowds with its regular stage appearances.
