Biography
John Henry Fortescue, known as Guitar Shorty, and born on September 8, 1934, was an American blues singer-songwriter and guitarist. He began playing guitar at an early age and received his nickname "Guitar Shorty" while performing with the Walter Johnson Band at age 16. His first single "You Don't Treat Me Right" was released in 1957 on the Cobra label. Guitar Shorty joined the Ray Charles Band and later fronted his own band at the Dew Drop Inn in New Orleans. Throughout his career, he released numerous albums including Watch Your Back (2004) and We the People (2006), both of which charted on the Billboard Top Blues Albums. Guitar Shorty passed away on April 20, 2022.
