Biography

Grauzone is a Swiss band from Bern. The group formed in 1980 out of the scene surrounding the punk band Glueams. The founding members include Martin Eicher (vocals, guitar, synthesizer), Christian “GT” Trüssel (bass), and Marco Repetto (drums). Later members included Stephan Eicher (vocals, guitar, synthesizer), Claudine Chirac (saxophone), Max Kleiner (keyboard), and Ingrid Berney (bass). Grauzone plays Neue Deutsche Welle, post-punk, minimal wave, electro wave, and Swiss wave. As early as 1980, the group attracted attention with their contributions to the compilation *Swiss Wave – The Album *. Their big breakthrough came in 1981 with the single “Eisbär.” The song reached No. 12 on the German singles charts and No. 6 in Austria. To this day, it is considered one of the best-known songs of the early Neue Deutsche Welle era. Other notable singles include “Moskau” (1981), “Film 2” (1981), “Träume mit mir” (1982), and “Wütendes Glas” (1982). In 1981, the band released their only studio album, *Grauzone*. The album reached No. 37 on the German album charts. After just a few concerts, four singles, and one album, the band called it quits as early as 1982. In the decades that followed, several reissues and archival releases were published. These include Die Sunrise Tapes (1998), Grauzone 1980–1982 (2010), Im Kalten Polar (2021), and an expanded reissue of Grauzone (2021).
