Biography
Goober & The Peas, a cowpunk band from Detroit, Michigan, formed in 1990. Their debut EP, The Complete Works of Goober & the Peas, was released in 1992, followed by an LP of the same name later that year. The band's unique blend of country music and rock gained them a reputation for frenetic live shows and notable collaborations with artists such as Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Bob Dylan, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Morphine, and Uncle Tupelo. In 1993, they performed at South by Southwest. Notable achievements include winning Best Rock Band and Album of the Year honors at the 1992 Detroit Music Awards and having their music video for "Hot Women (Cold Beer)" chart on the College Music Journal Top 200 college albums chart. Their second LP, The Jet-Age Genius of Goober & the Peas, was released in 1995. The band disbanded later that year but reunited over the years for performances.
