Biography
Girolamo Fantini, born on February 11, 1600 in Spoleto, Italy, was an Italian trumpeter and composer of the Baroque period. He began his career serving under Cardinal Scipione Borghese in Rome from 1626 to 1630. In April 1631, Fantini became a trumpeter at the court of Grand Duke Ferdinand II de' Medici in Florence, where he remained until at least 1636. During his tenure, he collaborated with notable figures such as Girolamo Frescobaldi, performing concerts that included trumpet and organ duets. In 1638, Fantini published Modo per imparare a sonare di Tromba, one of the earliest and most historically significant methods for playing the trumpet. His main works include compositions like "Imperiale" and eight Sonate per tromba e basso continuo, dedicated to Ferdinand II. He died on May 6, 1675 in Florence.
