Biography

Genta Chiba (born September 8, 1948, in Miyagi Prefecture) is a Japanese male enka singer who made his major-label debut in 1976. His real name is Toru Chiba. Known by the nickname “The Roaring Spirit of Enka,” he enjoys enduring popularity for his robust, classic enka style. After studying under composer Nobuo Shimazu, he made a striking debut with the single “Truck Guy” . Since then, he has released numerous hit songs that blend melancholy and power, such as “Nostalgic Children’s Song” and “Nostalgia for Sanriku” . He has also demonstrated his exceptional musical talent by composing songs himself under the pseudonym “Hajime Miyasako.” In 2021, he released “45th Anniversary Album: Tracks of Gratitude” as a token of appreciation to his fans. This comprehensive commemorative album features not only his signature songs but also album versions of those tracks. Furthermore, on June 3, 2026, he released his latest best-of album, “Best: Fifty Years of Enka Life” , a labor of love celebrating the 50th anniversary of his singing career. This album condenses his tumultuous journey spanning half a century into 16 tracks. On the same day, June 3, 2026, he also released the single “Setsu” , which passionately sings of a man’s spirit and enjoys great popularity in karaoke, attracting significant attention.
