Biography
A project born during the Covid-19 pandemic, Gates of Light brings together musicians from different time zones. Initiated in 2020 by Glasgow couple Louise Quinn and Bal Cooke (A Band Called Quinn), it invites London DJ Scott Fraser, Frenchman Kid Loco and American video artist Tom Saccenti. Via the Internet, the protagonists work on the electronic songs that give rise to the album Gates of Light (2021), released on the independent Shimmy Disc label. A mix of electro pop, dream pop and psychedelic, even folk, this inaugural opus was followed by a rockier single, "Black Summer" (2022). The end of the pandemic and the return to life did little to prevent the musicians from continuing their project, with an additional collaborator in the person of Finlay MacDonald (ex-BMX Bandits and Teenage Fanclub), who took part in Gates of Light II, which was released in a Glasgow Edition in 2023, a Paris Edition in 2024 and a nine-track international edition in 2025.
