Gérard Badini, born April 16, 1931, in Paris, is a French jazz musician known for his skills on tenor saxophone, clarinet, and piano. He started his career as a clarinetist in Michel Attenoux's orchestra in Monte Carlo in 1952 and toured Europe with Sidney Bechet in 1954. The following year, he formed a trio with Claude Bolling. Badini played with François Guin's band Les Swingers from 1968 and founded his own group, the Swing Machine, in 1973. He performed at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1970 and toured Africa and the USA. Notable collaborations include work with Helen Humes, Roy Eldridge, and Clark Terry. Badini received the Grand Prix du Jazz from SACEM in 1992 and the Prix Boris Vian from the Académie du Jazz in 1993. His album Scriabinâs Groove (2006) showcases his contributions to jazz music. Other albums include The Swing Machine (1975), A Night at the Popcorn (1975), Mister Swing Meets Debussy (1991), and French Cooking (2003).
