Denzil Gail Laughton, known professionally as Gail Laughton, and born on June 21, 1921, in Oklahoma, was a harpist whose parents were both involved with the instrument: his mother as a teacher and his father as a builder. As a young child, Laughton played with his family's orchestra, touring Cuba and Panama. He joined the Oklahoma City Symphony in 1937 at the age of 15. Laughton appeared regularly on the Al Pearce Show, a weekly radio broadcast in 1942. He notably provided the harp-playing hands for Cary Grant in the movie The Bishop's Wife. Laughton released his solo album, Harps of the Ancient Temples, in 1969. The track "Pompeii 76 A.D." from this album was used in the film Blade Runner and mislabeled as "Harp of the Ancient Temples" and/or "Bicycle Riders". Laughton passed away on September 9, 1985.
