Frigyes Hidas, born on May 25, 1928, in Budapest, Hungary, was a composer. He studied composition at the Budapest Academy of Music under János Visky. Hidas began his career as the musical director of the National Theater in Budapest from 1951 to 1966, followed by a similar role at the city's Operetta Theater from 1974 to 1979. His extensive oeuvre includes operas, ballets, concertos, orchestral works, chamber music, and vocal and choral pieces. Notable works include Concerto per oboe e orchestra (1951), Missa brevis (1956), and SzÃnek (1960). Hidas was a prominent figure in contemporary chamber and concert band music for wind instruments, receiving numerous commissions from opera houses, radio stations, universities, ballet companies, and musical associations. He passed away on March 7, 2007, leaving behind a significant body of work that continues to be recognized in the classical music community.
