Darin Alexander McFadyen, known professionally as FreQ Nasty, was born on 15â¯Novemberâ¯1969 in Fiji and began his career as a DJ and producer of electronic breakbeat music. After early exposure to diverse genres through his parents, he developed a passion for rhythm and began DJing in the late 1990s, releasing the single "Freqazoid" and "Underglass" in 1997, which established his presence in the breakbeat scene. In 1999 he issued the album Freq's Geeks & Mutilations, followed by Bring Me the Head of Freq Nasty in 2003. FreQ Nasty signed with Skint Records in 2003, collaborating with artists such as Fatboy Slim, Kelis, and Junior Delgado, and toured extensively across Europe, Australia, and North America, including appearances at Burning Man. His 2006 mix Breakspoll Presents: Volumeâ¯2 expanded his catalogue, while the 2008 mix FabricLive.42 received recognition as DJ Magazineâs compilation of the month. His 2011 single "Dread at the Controls" and the subsequent Low FreQuency Pureland EP earned DJ Magazineâs MoneyShot award.
