Biography

Frank Ferko, born June 18, 1950 in Barberton, Ohio, is an American composer and organist. He began playing piano as a child and worked as an organist during his teens. Ferko's early compositions were influenced by Lutheran composer Richard Wienhorst. He studied composition at Valparaiso University, earning a bachelor's degree in 1972. Ferko served as Director of Music at various midwestern churches before entering Northwestern University to study composition under Alan Stout. In the 1980s, he began receiving critical acclaim and commissions, including the Holtkamp Award from the American Guild of Organists in 1990 for "A Practical Program for Monks". His music has been performed in over 30 countries on six continents. Notable albums include Stabat Mater (2000) and Organ Music by Frank Ferko & Leo Sowerby (2021).
