Floyd Tillman, born on December 8, 1914 in Ryan, Oklahoma, was an American country musician and songwriter. He grew up in Post, Texas, and initially worked as a telegraph operator before turning to music. In the early 1930s, Tillman played mandolin and banjo at local dances, eventually taking up the guitar. His breakthrough came in 1938 with "It Makes No Difference Now", which became a hit. He achieved his only Number 1 single as a singer with "They Took the Stars Out of Heaven" in 1944. Tillman was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame in 1970 and the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1984. His final album, The Influence, released posthumously in April 2004, featured collaborations with artists like Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard. Tillman passed away on August 22, 2003 at the age of 88.
