Biography

Finneas O'Connell is a multi-Grammy-winning producer, songwriter, actor, singer in his own right and, according to some, the secret to his sister Billie Eilish's success. He was born in LA on 30 July 1997 to actor and screenwriter Maggie Baird and actor Patrick O'Connell, both of whom are also musicians. He got into songwriting when, aged 12, he and his mother took a songwriting class together. In the meantime, however, he had launched an acting career that saw him appearing with Cameron Diaz in the 2011 film Bad Teacher. His first real musical credit stemmed from his acting career when he appeared on the soundtrack for the music-themed film Life Inside Out (2013), in which he starred with his mother. His acting career continued to blossom with roles in Modern Family, Aquarius and as the recurring Glee character Alistair in 2015. The next year it was time for his music career to pull focus—his guitar pop band The Slightlys made their debut with "Desperate Measures" while, later in the year, he produced his sister's breakthrough hit "Ocean Eyes," a song he had written with the intention of giving it to his band. The song clocked up tens of millions of streams and reached number 84 on America's Hot 100. He continued to work with his sister, co-writing her 2017 debut EP Don't Smile at Me and her chart-topping 2019 debut, When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go? 2019 also saw him land further big-name production gigs working with the likes of Selena Gomez and Camila Cabello. At the same time, he was working on a record of his own and in October released his debut EP, Blood Harmony, making it to the top five on Billboard's Next Big Sound Chart. The following month he scooped up Grammys for Record, Album, Song, Producer of the Year and Best Engineered Album, Non-Classical. In February 2020 Billie Eilish's Bond theme for No Time to Die, co-written by Finneas O'Connell, was released. He released his debut full-length in 2021, Optimist, followed by For Cryin' Out Loud! in 2024, which spawned a minor hit in the title track.
