Japanese duo Fake Type was formed in 2013 in Tokyo, Japan by rapper TOPHAMHAT-KYO (AO) and trackmaker DYES IWASAKI. Incorporating a wide range of genres including Pop, Electro Swing, Hip-Hop, Drum & Bass and Dubstep, the duo released debut single âFAKE STYLEâ in August 2013, followed by their debut album âFAKE BOXâ in 2014 with hit single âNightmare Paradeâ gaining popularity in an internet meme, boosting their notoriety worldwide. After the success of follow-up albums FAKE BOOK (2015) and FAKE WORLD (2016), the duo announced a hiatus in 2017, choosing to focus on their respective careers, with AO releasing four albums over the next three years and gaining a substantial online following after his single âPrincessâ went viral. Announcing their reunion in September, 2020 with their Rebirth live show, the duoâs fourth album FAKE LAND was released in February 2021, signing with Universal Music in 2022 and recording their debut major label single âKnickknack Kingdomâ, followed by âBeauty Unique Boutiqueâ and âNightmare Parade 2020sâ from their fifth album âFAKE SWINGâ which was released on November 16, 2022.
