Biography

Fairies was a Japanese girl group formed in 2011. The group's members were selected from 100 candidates attending dance schools associated with the Vision Factory talent agency (later Rising Production) across 13 regions in Japan. Once assembled, the group made its debut with the double A-side single "More Kiss / Song for You" on September 21, 2011. They quickly gained recognition, winning the Best New Artist award at the 53rd Japan Record Awards in December 2011. In 2013, Kawane Kiyomura left the group to focus on her studies, and the subunit M Three was formed with Hayashida Mahiro, Fujita Miria, and Shimomura Miki. Fairies released their eponymous first album in March 2014, which included Momoka Ito’s solo song "Poker Face." Fairies embarked on their first live tour that summer. In 2015, the group released the single "Kiss Me Babe / Hirari," which peaked at number 5 on the Oricon charts. Fujita Miria departed in 2017 to focus on her studies. The group released their second album, Jukebox, in 2018; it consequently peaked at number 4 in Japan. Fairies continued to release singles throughout 2019, including "Metropolis." In June 2020, Rikako Inoue, Sora Nomoto, and Mahiro Hayashida decided to end their contracts with the agency, with Rikako Inoue retiring from show business. Momoka Ito and Miki Shimomura remained with the agency for solo activities.
