Ãvelyneâ¯Verrecchia, known professionally as Evy and Evelyn Lenton, was born on 16â¯Decemberâ¯1945 in Angers, MaineâetâLoire, France, and became a pop singerâsongwriter. Her first recordings appeared in 1963 for Barclay, including the EPs Pourquoi Choisirâ¯? and Chaque, Chaque Fois, and the single "1â¯+â¯1â¯=â¯1"; these early releases earned her positions in the Salut les Copains charts. In 1965 she relocated to Rome and signed with RCA, issuing singles such as "Giochiâ¯proibiti" and "Lâabito non fa il beatnik", while performing as a supporting act for the Kinks and the Rollingâ¯Stones at the Olympia in 1966. After a sojourn in London in 1969, she returned to Italy and, in 1976, joined the discoâpop group Belleâ¯Ãpoque, where the cover of "Blackâ¯isâ¯Black" reached Numberâ¯1 in the UK and numberâ¯15 in the US with "Missâ¯Broadway". She resumed a solo career in 1982 under the name Evelyneâ¯Lenton, releasing the album Operator. Evy continued to record into the 2000s, with Rockingâ¯Onâ¯! issued in 2007, before passing away on 22â¯Aprilâ¯2026 in Pordenone, FriuliâVenetia.
