Biography

The Euclid Beach Band, formed in 1978 in Cleveland, Ohio, was a rock group whose lineup included Jim Girard and Rich Reising, the guitarist formerly of Eric Carmen's band. The band’s name paid homage to the defunct Euclid Beach Park, and its early work was rooted in a local “pro‑Cleveland” sentiment. Their breakthrough came with the single "There's No Surf in Cleveland", recorded during the Great Blizzard of 1978 and released in May 1978; the track reached number 80 on the Record World singles chart and number 103 in Cash Box, while all proceeds were donated to the Cleveland Chapter of the American Red Cross. In 1979, the band released the self‑titled album Euclid Beach Band, produced by Eric Carmen, preceded by the single "I Need You", which peaked at number 81 on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1979. Despite these chart positions, the album did not chart nationally. The group disbanded in 1980, but Reising recorded "Headlands" in 1982, a tribute to Headlands Beach State Park. The band’s brief but impactful career remains a notable chapter in Cleveland’s rock history.
