Esto Es Eso, founded in 2006 by Ecuadorian audiovisual producer Luis VillamarÃn, blends traditional Ecuadorian guitar music with hip-hop, rock, blues, and reggae to create a unique and internationally recognized sound. Their debut album, Ecuafornia (2006), introduced their "pasillo-hop" fusion and gained massive popularity with the single "Light It Up," which remained on MTV Latin America for six months and became the theme song for the political satire show En Corto. In 2007, they received the Banda Promesa award and opened for Ricardo Arjona, performing for audiences of up to 30,000. Their second album, Oso Polar (2016), and third, Quito Machine (2021), further expanded their reach, with contributions from over 100 musicians worldwide. In 2024, they launched their fourth album, Libertad, a 20-track project to be released gradually through 2026 to mark their 20th anniversary. With a presence in over 120 countries, Esto Es Eso continues to push Ecuadorian music onto the global stage.
