Ãric George Yves Marie Serra, born 9â¯Septemberâ¯1959 in SaintâMandé, ValâdeâMarne, France, is a French composer, songwriter, guitarist, keyboardist, bassist, drummer and actor. He learned guitar at five, later mastering drums, bass, synth and piano under the guidance of his poet father, Claude Serra. His first professional engagements were in 1976 with Michel Murty and studio sessions for Mory Kanté and Didier Lockwood, leading to a collaboration with Luc Besson in 1979 on the short L'Avantâdernier. Ãric Serraâs breakthrough came with the score for Subway (1985), earning a Victoire de la Musique for best film score and a César nomination, followed by the soundtrack for Le Grand Bleu (1988) which won the César for best original music and sold over three million copies worldwide. Throughout the 1990s he composed for Nikita (1990), Atlantis (1991), Léon (1994) and the James Bond film GoldenEye (1995), while releasing the solo album RXRA (1998). The 2000s saw Ãric Serra scoring Le Cinquième Ãlément (1997), the Arthur et les Minimoys series (2006-2010), and The Lady (2011), and he founded the label Recall Music for Films in 2005. In 2019 he composed the score for Anna, featuring his daughter Mitivaï on the theme "I Am Criminal". Ãric Serra remains an important figure in French film music, with multiple César awards, Victoires, and a legacy of influential soundtracks.
