Ensemble Pygmalion, a French baroque ensemble founded in 2006 by conductor Raphaël Pichon, emerged from Parisian early music circles and quickly established a repertoire spanning Baroque to contemporary works. The groupâs breakthrough came with the 2008 release of Bach: Missae Breves BWV 234 & 235, followed by successive recordings of Bach: Missae Breves BWV 233 & 236 (2010) and Bach: Missa 1733 (2012). In 2014, the acclaimed Bach: Köthener Trauermusik BWV 244a earned the Victoires de la musique classique award, while 2015âs Bach: Missæ Breves BWV 232â236 â Complete Recordings received a Diapason dâor. The ensemble continued to collaborate with soloists such as Sabine Devieilhe and Stéphane Degout, released Bach: Motets (2020), Monteverdi: Vespro della Beata Vergine (2023), Mozart: Requiem (2024) and Brahms: Ein Deutsches Requiem (2025) under Harmonia Mundi, and performed at major venues including the Philharmonie de Paris, Opéra Comique, and international festivals in Cologne, Amsterdam, and Beijing. After thes recordings of Bach: Matthäus-Passion in 2022 and Bach: Mass in B Minor in 2025, the ensemble released Bach: Johannes-Passion in 2026.
