Emi Fukumoto is a folk singer from Fukushima Prefecture and an exclusive artist with Nippon Columbia. She demonstrated her talent at an early age, winning the New Year’s Children’s Tournament of Fuji TV’s “Kinkan Amateur Folk Song Championship” while in the sixth grade of elementary school. In 1987, she entered the Akita Folk Song Goseikai as an apprentice, studying under Tsuneo Sasaki and Hisako Hasegawa. She subsequently won numerous national competitions, including the “Soma Nagareyama National Competition,” the “Akita Obako National Competition,” and the “Soma Folk Song National Competition,” and in 1993, she passed the NHK audition. That same year, she received the Minister of Education Award in the Youth Division of the Japan Folk Song Association National Competition. Furthermore, she has received the Prime Minister’s Award at the “Akita Funakata-bushi National Competition,” the “Honjo Oiwake National Competition,” and the “Akita Oiwake National Competition,” earning high acclaim as a leading talent in the Japanese folk song world. In 2005, she signed an exclusive contract with Nippon Columbia and released “Nihon Negiyaka Ondo” and “Genki Hatsuratsu Dai Ondo” . In 2012, she released her first album *Ichimai no Kippu* , and in 2015, she released the song “Emibushi” to commemorate the 20th anniversary of her debut and held a recital. In 2017, she served as the main host of the “Japan Folk Song Festival” held at NHK Hall. On May 24, 2023, she released the single *Yōyō: Emi Fukumoto’s Songful Heart* , which includes tracks such as “Asu Tenki ni Naa-re,” “Emibushi,” and “Ichimai no Kippu” .
