El Kinto, a Uruguayan rock band also known as El Kinto Conjunto, was formed in Montevideo in 1967. The group's initial lineup included Eduardo Mateo and Walter Cambón on guitars, Rubén Rada on vocals and tumbadoras, Luis Sosa on drums, and Antonio "Lobito" Lagarde on bass. Their first performance took place at the Festival de la Canción Beat y de Protesta in June 1967. The band is noted for pioneering the fusion of candombe with beat music, creating a unique sound known as candombe beat. El Kinto's career was marked by significant changes and collaborations. In 1968, Rubén Rada left to tour Peru, leading to the addition of Mario "Chichito" Cabral on percussion. The band gained recognition through performances at Orfeo Negro and appearances on television shows like Discodromo Show. Their notable achievements include participating in the "Musicasiones" concert series in 1969. The band disbanded in 1970.
