Roberto Mario Gómez Bolañosâaffectionately known as Chespiritoâwas born in Mexico City on February 21, 1929, and initially pursued mechanical engineering while writing for radio and television in the 1950s and 1960s before breaking out with Los Supergenios de la Mesa Cuadrada (1968), where he introduced beloved characters like El Chavo and El ChapulÃn Colorado. Throughout the 1970s, he solidified his comedic legacy with long-running series such as El ChapulÃn Colorado (1973â1979), El Chavo del Ocho (1973â1980), and later his own sketch show Chespirito (1970â1995), while also releasing several studio albums tied to his shows, including Chespirito y Sus Canciones â ¡No Contaban Con Mi Astucia! (1976), Asà Cantamos y Vacilamos en la Vecindad del Chavo (1977), the childrenâs collection Canta Chespirito y su CompañÃa (1979), El Chavo Canta â ¡Eso, Eso, Eso...! (1980), SÃganme los Buenos a la Vecindad del Chavo (1981), and the Brazilian-only soundtrack Chaves (1989), all showcasing his songwriting and performance range. His artistic reach extended further into filmâwith titles like El Chanfle and Charritoâand theater, including the enduring musical-comedy TÃtere (1985) and his successful play Once y Doce, all the while producing and writing screenplays and books like El Diario del Chavo del 8 and ¡Sin querer queriendo!.
