Biography
Edward Kilenyi Jr. was born in 1910 and was an American pianist of Hungarian origin. He studied at the Franz Liszt Academy of Music in Budapest under ErnÅ Dohnányi and graduated in 1930. Kilenyi embarked on European tours, earning praise from conductors Sir Thomas Beecham and Willem Mengelberg. Notable recordings included the musical piece âDance of Deathâ (1939) and the album Chopin: Piano Concerto No. 1 in E Minor (1941). He returned to the United States in 1940 and collaborated with conductors Otto Klemperer and Eugene Ormandy. Kilenyi became director of Remington Records in 1951 and taught at Florida State University from 1953 to 1983. He died on January 6, 2000.
