Biography
Edmée Favart was a French soprano born on November 23, 1886, in Paris. The daughter of baritone Edmond Favart, she began her career as a child performing with her father in Algiers. In 1904, she appeared in a reprise of Le Petit Duc at the Théâtre des Variétés and later joined the Théâtre des Nouveautés in Brussels in 1907. She returned to Paris in 1912 to perform at the Gaîté in La Fille de Madame Angot. Favart made her Opéra-Comique debut on June 20, 1915, in Mignon, eventually singing the title role for the work's 1500th performance in 1919. Her repertoire included roles such as Mimi in La Bohème and Cherubino in Le Mariage de Figaro. She created leading roles in La Petite Fonctionnaire in 1921 and Ciboulette in 1923. Her recordings include extracts from Phi-Phi and songs from Ciboulette, both recorded in 1919, as well as the 1932 release Coups de Roulis. Favart retired in 1935 as Madame Paul Gazagne and died in Marseille on October 29, 1941.
