Biography

Edi Rock, born Edivaldo Pereira Alves in São Paulo, is a founding member of Racionais MC’s, one of the most influential rap groups in Brazil. He began his career in 1984 alongside KL Jay, and in 1988, they joined forces with Mano Brown and Ice Blue to form the legendary group. As a songwriter, he contributed to iconic tracks like "Mágico de Oz," "Tempos Difíceis," "Negro Drama," and "A Vida é Desafio," shaping the voice of Brazilian hip-hop. His collaboration with the UK band Asian Dub Foundation on "19 Rebellions" reflected his socially conscious lyricism. In 2012, he gained solo recognition with "That's My Way," featuring Seu Jorge, which was nominated for Best Music Video at the VMB Awards. Parallel to his work with Racionais MC’s, Edi Rock pursued a solo career, releasing Contra Nós Ninguém Será (2013), Origens (2019), Origens, Parte 2: Ontem, Hoje e Amanhã (2020), and Origens 3 - O Show (Ao Vivo) (2024), blending rap with diverse influences. Over the years, he has collaborated with artists like O Rappa, Péricles, RZO, and ADL on Favela Vive IV, reinforcing his legacy in Brazilian hip-hop.
