Biography

Pandit Dattatreya Vishnu Paluskar, known as D.V. Paluskar, was born on May 28, 1921, in Nasik, Bombay Presidency, India. He was a Hindustani classical vocalist and the son of well-known musician Vishnu Digambar Paluskar. After his father's death at age ten, Paluskar was trained by several prominent figures including Pandit Vinayakrao Patwardhan and Pandit Narayanrao Vyas. His debut performance came at the Harvallabh Sangeet Sammelan in Punjab at 14. Paluskar inherited the Gwalior gharana and Gandharva Mahavidyalaya traditions but was open to incorporating elements from other gharanas. He sang a duet with Ustad Amir Khan in the film Baiju Bawra and contributed to the Bengali film Shaap Mochan. D.V. Paluskar passed away on October 26, 1955, due to encephalitis.
